2.3% OF THE POPULATION OF ABKHAZIA HAD CORONAVIRUS INFECTION

Sukhum. November 25, 2020. Apsnypress. Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab held a meeting on the implementation of measures to protect the population from coronavirus. It was attended by Health Minister Tamaz Tsakhnakia, Chief Sanitary Doctor Lyudmila Skorik, Director of RUE Abkhazpharmacy  Rustam Adleyba, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reports. 

Head of the Ministry of Health informed Prime Minister about the situation with coronavirus, noting that the incidence rates in November decreased by 50% (2831 cases in October, about 1343 - from 1-24 of November). However, the operational and coordination headquarters recommended to extend the restrictive measures based on the number of severe and fatal cases. 

According to Tsakhnakia, the death rate from the disease is over 1.2%. 76.6% recovered from the total number of cases. According to the Ministry of Health and chief sanitary doctor, the extension of restrictive measures will allow doctors to control the situation with the incidence, especially against the background of mixed infections  threat, such as simultaneous infection with the flu virus and coronavirus.

 Lyudmila Skorik added that citizens over 60 are more at the epicenter of the disease. According to her, it is extremely important for this category of citizens to observe precautionary measures in all public places and to protect themselves with a seasonal flu vaccine, which will help avoid complications during the period of an increase in the incidence of SARS. She added that medical workers have already been vaccinated. 

Tamaz Tsakhnakia informed Prime Minister that the material and technical support of the main center for the treatment of coronavirus patients in Gudauta has been strengthened, contracts  for the supply of additional consignments of protective equipment, medicines, diagnostic equipment, including for creation of COVID laboratories in Gagra and Ochamchira have been concluded. 

In addition, the Ministry of Health continues to implement a number of departmental target programs related to the treatment of general somatic patients (treatment of tuberculosis, diabetes, patients with end-stage renal failure, etc.). 

Rustam Adleyba said that medical institutions receive medicines in the amounts indicated in applications. 

“We try to respond promptly to requests from medical institutions, there are no gaps in provision for this period. If problems arise with a particular item of the application, then it is mainly related to the lack of the drug from our suppliers from Russia. Such issues are also resolved, but they take more time, " head of Abkhazpharmacy stated. 

Alexander Ankvab instructed doctors to preliminarily work out the issue of fully providing medical institutions with everything necessary for January-February 2021 in order to avoid a shortage of medical supplies and drugs in the first quarter of the new year. 

According to the Ministry of Health:

23,878 people carried out coronavirus tests, which is 9.7% of the total population of the republic; 

positive results accounted for 23.8% of the total number of studies; 

2.3%  of the country's population infected for the entire period or 5699 people; 

4,920 repeated studies of patients were carried out.
