Welcoming Bzhaniya, Lavrov said: “Glad to see you. We continue close contacts. In December, we met in Sochi with your foreign minister, held very useful talks and stressed the importance of our allied relations. Meeting with you, your contacts in Moscow at this stage is especially important, because as allies we must synchronize our watches at times when international relations are experiencing such strong tension.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation stressed that international relations are under great strain as a result of the West's relentless desire to maintain its dominance in international affairs, subjugate everything, and regain a unipolar world.
“These are illusions, of course, but at this stage these aspirations are causing serious tension to international relations, which we are counteracting with our partners, allies, including the Republic of Abkhazia,” Lavrov said.
Lavrov also noted that Russia is satisfied with the development of political dialogue and military-technical cooperation with Abkhazia and intends to develop them.
"We are pleased with the way our political dialogue, military-technical cooperation, defense cooperation, cooperation in the trade, economic and investment spheres, humanitarian and cultural ties are developing. All this is positively perceived by our peoples, and we are interested in actively developing this.
We appreciated your decision to recognize the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic, we will actively promote the development of contacts with these new states. I believe that in general this will help stabilize the situation in our common geopolitical space.
We have the opportunity to continue to support the assertion by Abkhazia of its rightful place in international affairs, so I consider your visit very timely,” said the head of the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation.
President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhaniya expressed gratitude to Sergey Lavrov for the meeting and informed about the processes that are taking place in the republic today in connection with the special operation conducted by Russia on the territory of Ukraine.
“The absolute majority of citizens of Abkhazia understand how important this is, that this is a necessary measure. In this sense, we have people prepared. We recognized the independence of the DNR and LNR. We had a rally of thousands. We sent humanitarian aid to Donbass twice. Currently, more than 150 women and children from the DPR and LPR are vacationing in Abkhazia. It seems to me that we created good conditions for them, I visited them, my wife stopped by. Now the weather will clear up, we will organize excursions for them, the educational process. We fell in love with these kids and are ready to accept more, ”said Bzhaniya.
Bzhaniya also declared Abkhazia's readiness to assist through the Ministry of Defense and special services.
"I once again want to confirm my sincere attitude on behalf of the entire people of Abkhazia to fraternal Russia, we have a single and inseparable destiny, therefore we will spare neither strength nor means to bring this situation to a logical and fair end. In this plan, you can count on us," the President of Abkhazia concluded.
