The meeting was attended by Secretary of the Security Council Sergey Shamba and Deputy Foreign Minister Irakli Tuzhba.

Sabina Mahl thanked President for the meeting and noted: “We would like to discuss with you in which directions we should better cooperate in order to coordinate our work. Our main task is to help people, ” she said.

President stressed that Abkhazia will continue cooperation with international organizations that help the republic. “You are doing a very important activity, we really appreciate it. We are talking about tens and hundreds of people whom you help. Thank you very much for this, ” Bzhania said.

For his part, Irakli Tuzhba said that in 2020, international organizations and UN agencies provided Abkhazia with assistance in the amount of $ 1.5 million to combat coronavirus infection.

“In total, over the past year, we received assistance in various areas. These are projects aimed at developing agriculture, and social support projects for those in need, and much more. All this is about $ 11.5 million. It is safe to say that we receive serious support from international organizations, ” Tuzhba said.

President Aslan Bzhania noted the importance of combating coronavirus infection. “We will gratefully accept help from international organizations in the form of medicines and medical equipment. We will not stop communicating with representatives of the international community and international organizations. We want the world to know about Abkhazia, ” he said.

During the meeting, President appealed to UN representatives with a request to assist in the restoration of one of the most ancient Orthodox shrines in Abkhazia - the Bedia Church.

The head of state also touched upon the topic of relations between Abkhazia and Georgia. He stressed that Abkhazia stands for the establishment of normal, civilized relations between the two neighboring countries, but this is possible with recognition of the independence and state sovereignty of Abkhazia by Georgia.
