LYUDMILA SKORIK REPORTED TO PRIME MINISTER ON THE EPIDEMIC SITUATION IN THE REPUBLIC

Sukhum. October 27, 2021. Apsnypress. The working meeting of Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab with chief sanitary doctor of the republic Lyudmila Skorik was devoted to the epidemiological situation in the country and measures to improve it, the press service of the RA Cabinet reports.

There is currently a slight decline after a new outbreak of coronavirus infection in early October, according to data provided by the chief sanitary doctor. However, according to Lyudmila Skorik, this situation does not give grounds to believe that there is a tendency to improve the general situation. Citizens continue to fail to comply with safety precautions and restrictions.

As the results of the long weekend at the end of September show, mass events and crowds of people in recreation areas have led to a sharp increase in the number of infected. Therefore, according to the chief sanitary doctor of Abkhazia, the extension of school holidays, as well as the introduction of additional days off, will most likely have the opposite effect - instead of temporary self-isolation in order to reduce the risk of illness, citizens will again rush to crowded places.

Given the known shortage of some expensive medications actively used in the treatment of coronavirus infection, the workload of the republic's covid facilities, the extremely unsatisfactory rates of vaccination, the situation with low responsibility of the population may become critical.

In this regard, Prime Minister discussed with chief sanitary doctor of the republic the possibility of toughening restrictive measures in combination with mandatory vaccination of public sector workers, whose activities are associated with intensive contacts with the population. It was proposed to put this issue up for discussion with the members of the Coordination Headquarters for Counteracting the Spread of Coronavirus Infection.

Lyudmila Skorik also said that special refrigeration equipment for storing a large number of vaccines was delivered to the republic through the ICRC. This need is associated with the planned delivery of 30 thousand doses of the Sputnik V vaccine. It is also planned to start vaccination of the population against influenza.

Alexander Ankvab instructed to speed up the work on the formation of a unified database of citizens of Abkhazia vaccinated against COVID-19 with QR-code certificates.
