Alexander Ankvab: "Our constructivism" in relation to Georgia is that we are against the resumption of war, we are for signing a peace treaty"

Thursday, 13 August 2020 16:20 1025

Sukhum. August 13, 2020. Apsnypress. Prime Minister of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab commented on the publication on the Voice of America radio website, published under the headline "The separatist authorities promise to end discrimination against ethnic Georgians."

It suggests that the current authorities of Abkhazia, including the Prime Minister, "are known for their 'constructive' attitude towards Tbilisi."

“I didn’t know that the propaganda instrument of the Soviet era“ Voice of America ”is still alive,” Alexander Ankvab was surprised.

Commenting on the publication and statements of the Georgian political scientist P. Zakareishvili, he stated that “none of the former and current leadership of Abkhazia has ever called for a war with Georgia but for agreements on the non-resumption of hostilities towards a peaceful neighbourhood. We are talking about this now. Abkhazia will not discuss the issue of its independence with anyone, the point of no return has been passed. But peace in the region guaranteed by the international community is essential. ”

Regarding the situation of the Georgian community in Gal region, Prime Minister of Abkhazia has repeatedly reiterated his publicly expressed position: “We consider all Georgians living in Abkhazia, who did not fight against us as our citizens. And we consider it unfair to deprive them of their Abkhaz passports. This is our internal affair. And if these two firm positions are viewed by someone as a "constructive attitude", then they are right, our constructivism is that we are against the resumption of war, we are for signing a peace treaty. "

Alexander Ankvab called the statement of Georgian political scientist that there is someone in the leadership of Abkhazia who is "less pro-Russian" "ridiculous".

“There were no such leaders in the Abkhaz political space, and there are none. This fully applies to President Bzhaniya, Ankvab, Shamba, and Khadzhimba, ” Prime Minister said.

In his opinion, such expert conclusions could have the right to exist based on certain actions or statements of political figures and, in particular, some of the leaders of Abkhazia

“There is nothing like this in our case. It is unlikely that political scientist Zakareishvili could have had personal contacts to make such conclusions. We would like to deal with serious expert opinion based on reality and specifics. The rest is verbal rubbish,” concluded Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab.
