Russian experts will monitor technical state of power system in Abkhazia

Sukhum. 12 August, 2020. Apsnypress. Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Christina Ozgan and General Director of the RUE Chernomorenergo Mikhail Logua held a working meeting with Russian experts who arrived in Abkhazia on 11 August.

The Russian delegation includes experts from JSC Technical Inspection UES and Center for Technical Supervision of PAO Rosseti. Christina Ozgan greeted Russian specialists and noted that decision to create a working group on study the state of energy complex of Abkhazia was made in May 2020 at a meeting between President of the Republic of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhaniya and Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak.

“One of the key issues raised at the meeting is the possibility of supplying electricity from Russia to Abkhazia during the autumn-winter peak. It this period when a significant deficit of electricity is formed in Abkhazia, ”said Christina Ozgan.

Another important issue is the provision of electricity to Abkhazia during a possible shutdown of the Ingur-HPP for repair work. “We need to substantively study and work out these issues in order to develop appropriate recommendations,” said Christina Ozgan. 

Head of the Russian delegation, Deputy Director for Audit and Analysis of the Technical Condition of Electric Grids of JSC “Technical Inspection of UES” Dmitry Pomeranets thanked his colleagues for their support and stressed that he understands the tasks faced by the working group.

“Our report will contain a set of priority, mid-term and long-term actions. The first-priority and medium-term measures will be aimed at what needs to be done before the creation of the repair scheme and partly during its creation, ” he said.

According to forecasts of general director of RUE "Chernomorenergo" Mikhail Logua, in already November, 2020, Abkhazia will consume its share of the electricity generated by the Ingur-HPP (40%). “Thus, we will need support not only for the period when the Ingur-HPP is being repaired,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Christina Ozgan stressed that this is a very serious issue and burden for Abkhazia.

“The prospect of solving it will depend on how effectively you carry out the work,” she concluded.
