ASLAN BZHANIA: “WE HOPE THAT THE EUROPEAN UNION WILL FACILITATE THE SIGNING OF THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CONFLICTING PARTIES”

Thursday, 15 October 2020 11:31 514

Sukhum. October 14. Apsnypress. Aslan Bzhania met with representatives of the European Union and OSCE in the RA President's Administration. There was discussed the agenda of the upcoming round of the Geneva discussions on stability and security in the Transcaucasus, as well as the epidemiological situation and possible assistance of the European Union in preventing the spread of the COVID-19.

Welcoming the guests, Aslan Bzhania noted: “I hope that the results of today's meeting, as well as the meetings in the RA Security Council will benefit us in establishing peace and trust between the conflicting parties. As far as I understand, it is your main mission. We do not want the situation to worsen. We do not want war. We do not take someone else's land from anyone and we will not give our own. For 12 years we have been trying to convey our position to the world community at the Geneva discussions. We continue to insist on the signing of the Treaty on the Non-Use of Force. And we hope that the European Union will facilitate the signing of an agreement between the conflicting parties. As far as you know, Georgia has now launched state programs such as Step Forward, the basis of which is the establishment of peace in the region as the foundation of progress. However, the creative processes cannot be realized by firing cannons. We know this in practice. Therefore, the Treaty on the Non-Use of Force should be the main focus of our negotiations. "

For his part, head of the delegation, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Toivo Klaar, stressed: “Thank you for taking the time to meet with us. I hope we will be able to discuss issues in solution of which all parties are interested. On the part of the European Union, we are showing interest in stability in the region. We look forward to providing us the opportunity to further assist to Abkhazia. "
