CHRISTINA OZGAN: ABKHAZIA WILL NOT REMAIN WITHOUT ELECTRICITY IN CRISIS PERIOD

Sunday, 11 October 2020 21:51 469

Sukhum. October 9, 2020. Apsnypress. A working meeting on energy supply to Abkhazia was held at the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, chaired by Deputy Minister Yevgeny Grabchak on October 8.

As announced earlier, the Abkhaz side set two main tasks at a meeting in the Ministry of Energy: to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity in the country during the shutdowns of the IngurGES hydroelectric units as part of repairs and to discuss the results of a technical audit of the energy system as a whole.

“The Russian side has identified an operator and proposed a technical supply scheme that will provide the republic's need for electricity for the entire period of repair work. The financial side of the issue remains to be discussed. But today we can confidently summarize that during the crisis Abkhazia will not be left without electricity - and this is the most important thing. The format of the meeting allowed the specialists of RUE Chernomorenergo to directly discuss the mechanisms for realizing the flow of electricity, ” said Christina Ozgan, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Abkhazia.

According to the press service of the RA Ministry of Economy, the Abkhazian side received the results of a technical audit conducted in August of this year with conclusions on the technical condition of transmission and distribution networks, with  solution of issues according to degree of importance and priority.

“We also managed to substantively discuss the entire list of the above issues. We have identified priority actions. There are several stages of their solution. The main task is to eliminate the high level of accidents and to properly operate the facilities and transmission networks of the power system. According to preliminary estimates, the cost of measures aimed at solving these problems will be about 4.7 billion rubles, ” Ozgan said.

Regarding the activities of RUE "Chernomrenergo", the Russian side noted the need to strengthen regulation of prevention and operation of facilities and transmission networks, dispatching, and the adoption of  actions of responsible employees in cases of emergency situations.

According to Deputy Prime Minister, "this is an important area in the work of the United Abkhaz Operator, which should not be underestimated."

“The designated points have to be finalized and brought into proper condition. We know that control and accounting of consumed electricity by all categories of consumers is not carried out at a proper level. This issue also requires an urgent solution in order to optimize high loads and consumption volumes, ” she stressed.

Summing up the results of the meeting in the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, Christina Ozgan noted: “We will be able to survive this crisis, but there is still a lot of difficult work to restore order. The energy industry is in need of serious investment. This is a matter of the country's strategic security, so we will make every effort to resolve it. "
