About 100 thousand people crossed the Abkhaz-Russian border in 4 days

 Sukhum. August 5, 2020. Apsnypress. Almost 100 thousand people have crossed the Russian-Abkhaz border since its opening on August 1. At the same time, there observed an increase in transport and passenger traffic, the press service of the Sochi customs told TASS on Tuesday August 4.

On August 1, the restrictions on crossing the Russian-Abkhaz border due to coronavirus, were lifted. The opening of the border took place synchronously with the Russian and Abkhaz sides after the signing of relevant orders by Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin and President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhaniya.

According to the Sochi customs, over 30 thousand people crossed the border last weekend.

"Individuals - 92,061, transport - 18,821, including buses - 456, cars - 17,614, trucks - 751 traveled in both directions from the Russian Federation to Abkhazia and back. This data is from August 1, since the opening of the border. Transport and passenger traffic continues to grow, " press service said.

The press service noted that currently the Sochi customs officers are working in an enhanced mode. All measures are being taken to speed up customs control and quickly cross the border. Thus, 23 lanes of the customs post operate for entry and exit, including a reserve one, which was opened specifically to increase the throughput.

Earlier, due to coronavirus pandemic there were restrictions on the entry the border of Abkhazia with Russia for foreigners and stateless persons, with exception of diplomats and the Russian military, as well as drivers carrying out international cargo transportation.
