ABKHAZIA EXPRESSES CONCERN WITH GEORGIA'S MILITARY CAPACITY BUILDING

Thursday, 31 December 2020 19:03 674

Sukhum. December 25, 2020. Apsnypress. Abkhazia expresses serious concern over the buildup of Georgia's military potential.

As it became known from the speech of the Minister of Defense of Georgia I. Garibashvili during the parliamentary hearings, in 2021 the Georgian military department plans to purchase a batch of reconnaissance and combat unmanned aerial vehicles. In addition, he noted that an agreement was recently signed with Israel on the renewal and complete modernization of Georgia's air defense system.

“It is quite obvious that these modern types of weapons can be used exclusively for the military solution of unsettled conflicts,” the RA MFA commentary says.

COMMENTARY OF THE RA MFA

As it became known from the speech of the Minister of Defense of Georgia I. Garibashvili during the parliamentary hearings, in 2021 the Georgian military department plans to purchase a batch of reconnaissance and combat unmanned aerial vehicles. In addition, he noted that there was reached an agreement with Israel on the renewal and complete modernization of Georgia's air defense system.

Once again, the Georgian leadership, while actively building up its military potential, is trying to justify its actions solely by the need to ensure security and stability in the region. However, it is extremely difficult to justify plans to purchase reconnaissance and combat UAVs solely in self-defense interests.

In light of the recent events in Nagorno-Karabakh, where unmanned combat aircraft were actively used, thanks to the use of which the Azerbaijan side was able to develop an offensive operation. Georgia's plans to purchase such types of modern high-precision weapons are acquiring particular relevance. It is quite obvious that these modern types of weapons can be used exclusively for the military solution of unresolved conflicts.

Such actions of the Georgian authorities clearly demonstrate Georgia's openly hostile attitude towards its closest neighbors and completely devalue any declarative steps on its commitment to a peaceful settlement of existing conflicts. There is also no doubt that the course of militarizing Georgia is actively supported by official Washington, which acts as a strategic partner of Tbilisi.

We are deeply convinced that the intensification of the militarization process in Georgia is extremely dangerous and poses a direct threat to peace and stability. The Abkhaz side expresses its serious concern about such provocative actions of the Georgian authorities, which could generate a new round of tension in the conflict zone.

Taking into account the current situation, the Abkhaz side intends to demand detailed explanations from the US representatives regarding the intentions of the Georgian leadership to build up military potential. And substantiated arguments about the plans for the further use of such high-precision and extremely effective offensive weapons in our region.
